Round 2
15/6/08 North VS West,
EAST YORKSHIRE v SOUTH YORKSHIRE at BEVERLEY TOWN CC
SOUTH YORKSHIRE 146 FOR 8 (C WESTWOOD 76NO, H McCoid 2 for 9, Hannah Matthews 1 for 11)
EAST YORKSHIRE 147 FOR 1 (G Byas 73no, C Carson 28 no H Craig 15) (E Clark 1 for 16)
South Yorkshire won the toss and decided to bat first and made steady progress before Twist (9) was caught at slip by Georgia Brown off Hannah Matthews. Westwood batted well for the South but as the East bowlers bowled consistently well, wickets began to fall . Katherine Carson (2 for 17) Megan Storey (2 for 29) and Hannah McCoid (2 for 9) were the other wicket takers but both Hannah Gosnold and Georgia Brown both bowled well without reward. A cracking bit of fielding from Helen Craig on the mid-wicket boundary saw Hillditch run out, was the other wicket leaving Westwood still not out on 76.
The East started quickly with Helen Craig racing to 15 in the first two overs but Clarke got revenge by bowling her in the third over which brought Katharine Carson to the crease. Katharine (28no) came in to support Georgia Byas (73no) who gradually built her innings and although batting for the first time this season showed what a class act she is. This was her first 50 however but gave a much needed boost to the East Yorkshire side who had been beaten so convincingly by West Yorkshire the week before.
Rachael Byas, Chair Person of East Yorkshire Women & Girls Cricket Development Group said," What a joy it was to see the team bounce back after the defeat last week. The girls bowled and fielded exceptionally well including the two youngsters, Katie Renwick and Emma Richards who between them must have saved over 40 runs. Overall a great all round performance; well done to the team and the coaches involved".
East now face North in the final District game on 3 August 2008 at Pannal CC in North Yorkshire. Picture of the winning Team:
