It is part of the Yorkshire County Cricket Board strategy to devolve cricket development to the districts and following a lot of hard work by the Yorkshire Women’s Development Officer Paul Shaw, the North Yorkshire Women and Girls Cricket Development Group formally came into existence a little over a year ago. We would like to pay a special thank you to Paul for his support, encouragement, expertise and the countless hours he has given us, over and above his job description.

The committee is a small group, who have met regularly during the year and have initially set small, but manageable aims. Geographically our district is massive, with almost 100 miles between Settle in the West and Scarborough in the East. Our main task last year was to establish the group; write and adopt a constitution; organise the district teams; represent the district at the Yorkshire Development group and support the growth of girls’ teams in the district. We feel we have achieved a lot in a short space of time but appreciate there is still a lot to do. This report should give you a flavour of who we are, what we have done and what we hope to achieve in the future.

District Cricket

For the first time North Yorkshire held trials for District teams and enjoyed successful seasons at all levels.

Pride of place belongs to the Under 13 Squad, who won their area tournament convincingly, beating all three districts by large margins, with a strong squad all contributing. A special thanks to the hard work of Jane Hildreth, whose club, Rufforth hosted a memorable day.

The Under 11s, under coach Charlotte Grayshon, held training sessions and managed 3 tournaments ending up very close runners up to West Yorkshire. This was a fantastic effort by all districts, with some future stars on display.

The Under 15s had a very mixed rain affected season, comfortably beating South Yorkshire, but being on the end of a heavy loss to West Yorkshire.

Congratulations to the following girls who were selected for Yorkshire Squads in 2006.

U17 – Punam Kalairai ; Grace Holmes

U15 – Hannah Buck ; Frankie Dixon

U13 – Charlotte North : Jessica Watson ; Hania Thompson ; Lucy Wood: Lauren Harker

Club & School News

At present there are very few girls teams in the district, but quality counts. Pannal, Settle ,Rufforth enjoyed second seasons in the Airedale Junior leagues and were glad to be joined by a rapidly growing Spofforth set up. Pride of place was taken by Pannal U13s who won the Lady Taverners National Competition, in a tense bowl out in Birmingham. Several of the girls played for St Aidans, Harrogate in the indoor equivalent , with both their U13s (2nd) and U15s (4th) reaching National Finals. An outstanding double for a school, against many club teams full of county stars. It was most encouraging to see so many North Yorkshire schools in the Yorkshire finals, if only we could translate this in to club teams! York Ladies played in the White Rose Development League.
