Pathways to Excellence

YCB has now produced a document entitled “YCB Guidelines - Coaching and Activity Programmes”.
Please e-mail
Ian Chappell or Howard Clayton for a copy.
Any Coach engaged in Coaching at any level is strongly recommended to study the document and its content closely.

The Pathways to Cricket Excellence Winter Coaching Scheme incorporates the coaching sessions run by the Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the Yorkshire Schools Cricket Association and the former YCA Centre of Excellence.

Boys and girls usually enter the scheme at Bronze Level and hopefully progress to Level 1

THE MENS` SCHEME

Virtually all Yorkshire's current county players have progressed through the scheme.

PLEASE READ THE ADVICE FROM THE YORKSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB AND THE YCB AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE CONCERNING ATTENDANCE AT NETS FOR THE BEST PLAYERS.

Level 1 - Yorkshire CCC players contracted to the Academy and scholarship players are YCCC Staff. Their coaching is dealt with at sessions supervised by the County Club`s Coaching Staff.

Once a Student attains Level I, he ceases to attend any other Pathways nets.

Gold Level - This is part of the re-vamped Scheme and meets at Headingley for fitness, skill and dietary/nutritional work before Christmas and then for more traditional net work after Christmas. Sessions will be held in the East Stand and the Yorkshire Cricket Centre.

Silver Level - For identified talented developing players. There are two centres at this level and they are also part of the re-vamped Scheme. Both Centres meet at Headingley for fitness, skill and dietary/nutritional work before Christmas and then for more traditional net work after Christmas. Sessions will be held in the East Stand and the Yorkshire Cricket Centre.

Bronze Level - These are District-based Centres for improving and developing players. There are currently 8 such Centres around the County, based at St Aidans HS, Harrogate and the Unity City Academy, Middlesbrough (North and Cleveland), Sheffield United Cricket School (South), St Mary`s Sports College in Hull (East) and Heckmondwike GS, Featherstone Sports Centre and Woodlands CC Sports Centres (all serving the West of the County). In addition, St Olaves School (York) takes Students from the York / Scarborough area.

THE WOMENS` SCHEME

This too has been completely re-organised.

Gold Level - This is part of the re-vamped Scheme and meets at Headingley for fitness, skill and dietary/nutritional work before Christmas and then for more traditional net work after Christmas.

Silver Level - This is part of the re-vamped Scheme and meets at Headingley for fitness, skill and dietary/nutritional work before Christmas and then for more traditional net work after Christmas. Sessions post Christmas will be held at Heckmondwike GS.

Bronze Level - These are 4 District-based Centres, currently situated at St Mary`s High School in Menston (West Yorkshire), Boroughbridge HS, Priory Sports College, Barnsley and St Mary`s College (Hull). Some Students at these Centres are improving and developing players. They will be ear-marked by the Directors to move up to Silver Level eventually.

ADVICE ON NET ATTENDANCE FROM THE YORKSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB AND THE YCB

Once a Student accepts a place at any of the Centres within the Pathways Scheme, the YCB and the County Club strongly recommend that he attend no more than two net sessions per week. This usually means the weekend Pathways session and, if he is invited, the extra mid-week sessions that are normally arranged.
